Spanish researchers have identified what substances exhaled by man eloquent of all evidence of cancer, and built a device for detecting them. Some diseases - such as lung cancer or stomach - it is difficult to diagnose in early stages, because they can be easily confused with a totally innocuous illness. And sometimes the doctors just do not have time to do something - like a tumor is inoperable.
"The first swallows of" malignant neoplasm are specific substances that are contained in the exhaled air or natural secretions - tumor markers. Scientists have experimented with dogs that have learned to "unyuhivat" prostate cancer, colon and lung. However, the use of "Friends of Rights" and are constantly in conveying conditions is problematic, so the researchers set out to find as many markers and where possible to replace these "living sensors" artificial.
We do not know whether the experts have used technology company Tecnalia dog experience, but mostly they relied on a method combining gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS). With it, they studied the breathing patterns collected from lung cancer patients from the hospital, Hospital Universitario Donostia, and identified the most typical of the disease agents.
The concentration of these markers in the breath of a healthy person is about 1-20 parts per billion, and with the disease increases by 10-100 times. These data helped to create a biosensor for early detection of lung cancer in exhaled air. Recall mortality from cancer in the structure of overall mortality in our country is 13% - 85 thousand people.
